Gordon Townson is Chairman of Grampian Police Diced Cap Charitable Trust. Having held this post for several years he has fostered an excellent relationship with press/media and has a wide network of contacts in the public, corporate and voluntary sectors.
It is primarily through his contacts in the voluntary sector that he has been able engage with all year groups at Westhill Academy and put the following programme together for S6 for 2005/2006.
JUNE - S6 Induction - present speakers from wide spectrum of local charities.
JULY - Charities offer students visits / short placements.
OCTOBER - Diced Cap Devils Cauldron public speaking event with S6 students delivering 7 minute presentations on their chosen charities including a business plan for raising funds - assessed by a panel of high profile judges from public and corporate sectors.
NOVEMBER - Business breakfast will promote the idea of young people volunteering and their role in supporting good causes. High profile national speakers and S6 students.
- FEBRUARY 06 Annual Diced Cap Good Samaritan Awards recognising good citizenship and achievement over adversity. Westhill S6 students were given a platform to hand over monies raised for selected charities and be recognised for their efforts.
- JUNE 06 - Diced Cap ‘Can Do’ Conference celebrated Westhill Academy’s achievements and offered to replicate the programme with all academies in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire. 12 academies have committed to become involved 2006 / 7.
